Newly appointed Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat has stated that he will focus on addressing several issues, including waste problems in Indonesia, ensuring their management follows global standards. “There are certainly many things that must be done right in front of us, for example, waste, which we will gradually follow global standards. Various international agreements that we are working on,” said Environment Minister/Head of the Environment Control Agency (BPLH) Jumhur Hidayat after the inauguration at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday. He expressed confidence that with strong commitment from President Prabowo Subianto, the KLH/BPLH apparatus will be able to carry out its duties and achieve targets in these issues. “Pray for and help me campaign to ensure environmental living becomes a habit in our hearts,” Jumhur added. Previously, Jumhur was officially inaugurated as Minister of Environment/Head of BPLH, replacing Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, in a swearing-in ceremony at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday. Jumhur himself is known as a labour figure and activist. He previously served as Head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) from 2007-2014. He also served as General Chairman of the All-Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KSPSI). Not only Jumhur, on that occasion Dudung Abdurachman was also inaugurated as Head of the Presidential Staff, Muhammad Qodari as Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Abdul Kadir Karding as Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, and Hanif Faisol Nurofiq as Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs.
