“We see this as a form of smart lifestyle adaptation. Consumers are now increasingly critical and consider value for money,” said APPMI Jakarta Chairman Dana Duriyatna when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday.

Responding to the issue of changing consumer behaviour from buying to renting branded and luxury bags, Dana assessed that society is beginning to consider the utility value of the products they use.

According to him, the most sought-after luxury bags are top-tier local designer brands and renowned international brands that are already familiar to the public.

“Based on our observations, top-tier local designer brands and famous international labels such as designer bags or premium Muslim clothing remain the favourites. In the local market, works by designers with signature details or materials that appear luxurious are highly sought after for family photo moments or open houses,” said Dana.

He also described this phenomenon as a solution to reducing waste and a way to realise sustainable fashion. Because the rental concept aligns with circular economy principles. By renting, the lifespan of one product becomes longer because it is used by many people in rotation.

This automatically suppresses overproduction and helps reduce clothing landfill piles as well as microplastic impacts from mass production processes.

“This is a positive step towards a greener fashion industry,” said Dana.
