The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme represents a major investment in Indonesia’s golden generation. Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Association of Entrepreneurs and Managers of Free Nutritious Meals Kitchens (APPMBGI) has expressed its commitment to sustaining the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, including through the processing of kitchen waste into compost and bioavtur. APPMBGI General Chairman Abdul Rivai Ras stated in Jakarta on Friday that the association is not only focused on providing nutritious food but also on responsible kitchen waste management. “The MBG programme is a major investment in Indonesia’s golden generation. Therefore, we are committed to turning every MBG kitchen into a zero-waste model that generates added value, rather than a burden on the environment and the state budget,” he said. Used cooking oil from the kitchens, he explained, will be collected in an organised manner to be processed into environmentally friendly bioavtur, while food scraps can be turned into compost fertiliser. According to him, this waste management approach not only provides an environmental solution but also drives the circular economy, creates new jobs, reduces the state’s waste management burden, and empowers SMEs and surrounding communities. Abdul Rivai emphasised that this waste management is not just a temporary programme but part of the long-term ecosystem of the MBG initiative. “We want to build a governance model that supports national food security as well as national energy security. From school kitchens to Indonesia’s skies, today’s waste can become energy and soil fertility tomorrow,” he said.
