Apple's Budget MacBook Neo Sells Out Overseas, Stock Piles Up in Indonesia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The latest budget Apple laptop, the MacBook Neo, has sold out in several countries within weeks of its launch. High demand has caused stock to deplete rapidly in regions such as the United States, with some retailers imposing purchase restrictions.
According to 9to5Mac, orders placed via Apple’s online store are now scheduled for delivery in early May, meaning April stock has already been exhausted.
Additionally, several Apple retail stores are running out of specific colours. Some outlets will not receive new shipments until 11 May. Third-party retailers like Best Buy and Target are also reporting delivery estimates at least a week longer than usual.
However, amidst the global shortage, Indonesia presents a different scenario. Stock of the MacBook Neo remains fully available across all colour options in the country.
Farah Fausa Winarsih, GM Marketing for Apple at PT MAP Zona Adiperkasa, stated that global market enthusiasm has influenced Indonesian consumer interest even before the product’s official launch.
‘In other countries, Asia, Europe, or even the US, most products are sold out. Especially the citrus colour, our hero colour, which is already sold out everywhere. This reflects on customers here as well,’ Farah said during the MacBook Neo launch at Pacific Place Mall, Jakarta, last weekend.
She added that Indonesian consumers were monitoring global demand even before pre-orders opened.
‘Even before Neo arrived, they knew it would be launched and that it was already sold out overseas. So as soon as we opened pre-orders, they rushed to the store to pre-order,’ she explained.
Despite this, Farah confirmed that supply for the Indonesian market remains secure. Digimap, in collaboration with Apple, continues to maintain supply to meet consumer demand amid global high demand.
‘Availability is first-come, first-served, but for colours, we still have all options available. There will be continuous shipments for the product,’ she added.
CNBC Indonesia observed long queues at the Digimap store during the MacBook Neo launch at Pacific Place Mall on Friday, 22 May 2025. Most visitors were customers who had pre-ordered and came to collect their devices. Buyers eagerly awaited their turn to pick up the new Apple laptop, with queues forming even before the store opened.
