Apple is urging iPhone users to immediately install a security update on their devices, citing a growing number of cyber security threats powered by artificial intelligence technology. The move is part of Apple’s effort to adapt to AI capabilities, which are seen as capable of rapidly developing dangerous hacking tools. AI is said to be able to compress the time needed by attackers to exploit weaknesses. This update replaces the company’s previous security release strategy, which typically bundled patches with major feature updates in iOS releases. For example, a security fix included in iOS 26.5 would previously only become available next in iOS 26.6. Under the new approach, security updates are delivered separately and can even be released faster than broader iOS updates. The hope is that this will reduce the time available for attackers to exploit vulnerabilities. There is no evidence that any vulnerability was exploited while a fix was being applied to smartphones in a shorter timeframe.
