Apple has officially unveiled the latest generation of MacBook Pro in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, now powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These professional laptops bring improvements in CPU and GPU performance as well as artificial intelligence (AI) processing that is four times faster than the previous generation. The launch marks an update to the MacBook Pro line for professional users, from content creators and application developers to those handling heavy computing workloads.

The new MacBook Pro features Fusion Architecture in the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips designed to boost performance while preserving power efficiency. The chip offers up to 18 cores for the CPU and up to 40 cores for the GPU on the M5 Max variant.

Additionally, the devices are equipped with SSDs up to twice as fast as the previous generation, larger memory, and support for the latest connectivity such as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

The Liquid Retina XDR display, a 12 MP camera with Center Stage, a six-speaker audio system, and battery life of up to 24 hours round out the updates.

“MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro and M5 Max redefine what is possible in a professional laptop,” said John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, in the official release.

He added that the Neural Accelerator on the GPU enables users to run advanced AI models directly on the device without compromising power efficiency.

As the successor to the previous generation, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in these MacBook Pro laptops deliver a jump in performance compared with the M4 Pro and M4 Max launched in 2024.

Apple says the Fusion architecture increases the bandwidth of the unified memory while maintaining power efficiency, so CPU and GPU performance is higher without sacrificing battery life.

On the AI side, the Neural Accelerator integrated into the GPU allows artificial intelligence model processing to run more than four times faster than the M4 generation.

Apple claims AI performance on the MacBook Pro M5 can be up to four times faster than the previous generation and up to eight times faster than the MacBook Pro based on the M1.

The new MacBook Pro is available in two display sizes, 14 inches and 16 inches. The M5 Pro model supports up to 64 GB of unified memory, while the M5 Max variant can be configured with up to 128 GB.
