Apple unveils MacBook Neo specifications with prices starting at Rp10 million
Apple has revealed the technical specifications of its latest laptop, the MacBook Neo, positioned as the most affordable Mac device yet, while still featuring a number of flagship features typical of the Mac line.
Via Apple’s website on Saturday local time, the company said the MacBook Neo is powered by the Apple A18 Pro chip, a six-core CPU consisting of two performance cores and four efficiency cores.
The chip also features a five-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a 16-core Neural Engine for AI-based tasks.
For memory, the laptop uses 8GB of unified memory with storage options of 256GB or 512GB SSD.
The chip’s media engine also supports hardware acceleration for various video formats such as H.264, HEVC, ProRes, ProRes RAW, and AV1.
The device also includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a dual-microphone system with beamforming technology to reduce background noise, and stereo speakers that support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos for a more immersive audio experience.
For connectivity, the MacBook Neo has two USB-C ports that support charging and accessory connections. One port supports USB 3 with speeds up to 10Gbps and DisplayPort, while the other supports USB 2 up to 480Mbps.
The MacBook Neo supports external displays up to 4K at 60Hz, while still rendering full resolution on the built-in screen.
In terms of power, the laptop uses a 36.5 watt-hour lithium-ion battery claimed to last up to 16 hours for video playback and up to 11 hours for wireless web usage. It also comes with a USB-C 20W power adapter and a 1.5-metre charging cable.
The MacBook Neo is available in four colours: silver, blush, citrus, and indigo.
The 256GB variant is priced at USD 599, or around Rp10 million, while the 512GB variant is priced at USD 699, or around Rp11.8 million.
Apple positions the MacBook Neo as an entry-level device in the MacBook lineup, aimed at new users and students entering the Mac ecosystem.
Made from the ground up to be more affordable for more people, the MacBook Neo is a laptop that only Apple can make. No other laptop is like this,” said John Ternus, Senior Vice President Hardware Engineering at Apple, in a company statement.
