Apple unveils MacBook Air with M5 chip and expanded memory

Coinciding with the launch of the MacBook Pro, Apple introduced a new MacBook Air equipped with the M5 chip and memory twice that of its predecessor. With an initial storage of 512GB and the new chip, the laptop is promised to deliver more capable AI performance, suitable for students, creative professionals, and businesspeople. ‘With the M5, the MacBook Air supports a range of tasks, from daily productivity to creative workloads, and is faster for AI,’ said John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, in a company press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday. The MacBook Air with the M5 chip is claimed to deliver 4x faster AI task performance compared to devices using the M4 chip. The M5 chip features a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator on each processor core. The M5 also includes faster integrated memory with a bandwidth of 153 Gbps, up 28 percent from the M4. With integrated memory support, the MacBook Air with M5 can handle a wider range of tasks more smoothly and launch apps faster. The device’s battery life is also improved, with a claimed up to 18 hours, six hours longer than the Intel-based MacBook Air. The MacBook Air with the M5 chip is available in 13- and 15-inch sizes with colour choices of Sky Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and Silver. The Apple laptop will be launched in the Indonesian market, but the company has not announced its price yet.
