Apple Unveils Its First MacBook Pro with a Touchscreen
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Technology company Apple has officially unveiled its latest MacBook Pro range with a touchscreen, marking the first time the company has launched a laptop with a touch display.
The laptops feature a PROLED XDR display, which Apple describes as the world’s best laptop screen. They are also equipped with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
“PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display. It combines the most advanced tandem OLED technology with algorithms in our display engine to deliver the visual quality professionals have long been waiting for,” Apple Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
The laptops are available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, and in Space Black and Silver.
Srouji said the integration of the touchscreen, M5 chip and macOS 27 Golden Gate creates a new way for professionals to interact directly with their content, taking workflows to a level not previously possible.
Display innovation and first-ever touch capability
The PROLED XDR display in the MacBook Pro uses tandem OLED technology, delivering peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1.
The technology is designed to provide deep blacks and exceptional detail, and supports the P3 and Adobe RGB colour gamuts for high levels of accuracy.
The most notable development in this generation is the addition of touch functionality. Sensors built directly into the display panel enable a highly responsive experience with no latency.
Users can now pinch to zoom, scroll and use the display as a full canvas in design applications.
M5 Pro and M5 Max performance
The 2026 MacBook Pro is powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips designed for demanding workloads.
The chips enable the device to run large language models (LLMs) with hundreds of billions of parameters directly on the device.
Apple has also included up to 128GB of unified memory and high-speed storage of up to 16TB. An updated thermal architecture is intended to maintain performance during 3D rendering, animation and ProRes 8K video editing.
The devices also offer a range of connectivity options, including three Thunderbolt 5 ports, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and a 12-megapixel Centre Stage camera. The laptop’s six-speaker audio system has also been upgraded, producing bass that is 50 per cent deeper.
Apple has not yet announced official prices for Indonesia. In the United States, the 14-inch model starts at US$2,899 (around Rp52.6 million), while the 16-inch model starts at US$3,399 (around Rp61.7 million).
