Apple to Reduce In-App Purchase Commission in China
Beijing — Apple has announced it will reduce commissions for in-app purchases (in-app purchases) on the App Store in mainland China from 15 March 2026.
According to Apple’s statement, the adjustment will take effect on that date regarding the commission rates applied in the App Store marketplace on iOS and iPadOS operating systems in mainland China.
The commission rate for standard in-app purchase transactions and paid applications will be set at 25 per cent, the company stated. The current commission rate stands at 30 per cent.
The commission rate for Apple in-app purchase transactions that qualify under the App Store Small Business Programme and Mini Apps Partner Programme, as well as automatic subscription renewals through Apple in-app purchases after the first year, will be set at 12 per cent. The current rate is 15 per cent.
Apple stated that it has implemented several changes to the App Store in China following discussions with the country’s regulators.
Agreeing to the updated terms by 15 March is not required to receive benefits of the commission rate changes that will take effect on that date, the company explained.
The statement added that Apple is committed to upholding fair and transparent terms for all developers, and continuously offers competitive App Store rates to developers distributing applications in China that are no higher than the overall rates in other markets.
