Jakarta (ANTARA) - Apple has reportedly agreed to a payment of $250 million US dollars, or approximately Rp4.3 trillion, to settle a lawsuit in the United States related to the delay in launching the virtual assistant Siri feature supported by artificial intelligence (AI)-based capabilities. According to Engadget on Wednesday, Apple was sued for allegedly misleading iPhone consumers by promising a Siri update alongside the launch of Apple Intelligence features in 2024, but the feature has not yet been released to date. The payment agreement is still awaiting court approval and will cover users in the United States who purchased the iPhone 16 line as well as the iPhone 15 Pro. Affected consumers will receive financial compensation. However, under the agreement, Apple is not required to admit any wrongdoing regarding the promotion of unavailable AI features. Apple has previously released several other AI features, such as text processing, image generation, and integration with ChatGPT, throughout 2024 to 2025. However, the main Siri update promised as a key part of Apple’s AI ecosystem remains delayed. The technology company only publicly acknowledged the delay in March 2025, more than five months after the iPhone 16 launch, which was marketed with Apple Intelligence support. Following that, the company also withdrew several advertisements that previously featured the latest Siri capabilities. Apple is said to plan to introduce the new Siri version this year through the iOS 27 operating system update. This development is also supported by collaboration with Google through the use of the Gemini AI model.
