Apple Says It Prevented Rp36 Trillion of Fraud in the App Store

Apple says it has prevented more than US$2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions in the App Store during 2025, equivalent to around Rp36 trillion. In total, Apple says it has blocked more than US$11.2 billion in fraud over the past six years. Apple explains that fraudulent transactions in the App Store typically involve the use of stolen credit cards, fake accounts, illegal app purchases, and manipulation of digital payment systems. “Creating a safe and trusted App Store requires vigilance and dedication,” Apple said in the report. In addition to preventing fraudulent transactions, Apple revealed that it thwarted 1.1 billion attempts to create fake customer accounts during 2025. Apple also deactivated more than 40.4 million additional customer accounts suspected of fraud or abuse of the system. On the developer side, Apple said it deactivated around 193,000 developer accounts due to suspected fraud, and rejected more than 138,000 new developer registrations. Apple also detected and blocked around 28,000 illegal apps from pirate stores. The apps included malware, gambling apps, pornography, and pirated versions of official App Store apps. In the last month alone, Apple says it prevented 2.9 million attempts to install or launch illegal apps outside the App Store. Apple said the surge in AI-based apps has also made the app review process more complex. Some reasons for rejection include hidden features, privacy violations, spam, and apps that imitate other apps. Apple also disclosed a bait-and-switch modus operandi, where an app initially appears normal, such as a game or calculator, but secretly becomes a fraudulent app after passing review. Throughout 2025, Apple removed nearly 59,000 apps for involvement in such practices.
