Some users have reported cracks in the internal display of the iPhone Duo around its hinge since the device was launched. Apple has now responded to the reports.

In an official statement, Apple said the issue had affected a small number of iPhone Duo units. It asked affected users to contact AppleCare to have their damaged devices replaced.

“Early customer response to iPhone Duo has been very positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are quickly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor,” Apple said in a statement, as quoted by detikINET on Tuesday (27 October 2026).

“We are aware of an issue affecting the internal display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience an issue with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare to receive a replacement unit,” the statement continued.

Apple did not disclose what caused the screens to crack or whether it would take steps to address the issue. Some affected users said they received replacement devices straight away, while others had to wait because supplies were limited.

Apple said the issue was very limited in scope and that most iPhone Duo owners would not experience it. It also said this was not the kind of damage users should expect to develop over time.

Several units reported as faulty on social media and internet forums developed cracks shortly after purchase. Affected users described the same problem: cracks at the bottom of the internal display.

The cracks appeared along the hinge and created a permanent horizontal line on the right-hand side of the screen. Some users said the iPhone’s hinge felt as though it was catching, and that they sometimes heard a popping sound just before the cracks appeared.

iFixit dismantled the iPhone Duo in its latest video and identified several possible causes of the damage. It said multiple components were clustered around the area where the cracks appeared. One possibility is that the hinge’s central support blade, which is meant to retract inwards, failed to function, causing the damage.
