Apple Reportedly Still on Track with All-Glass Design for 20th Anniversary iPhone

Apple is reportedly still on track to release a special edition iPhone featuring a glass-dominated design to mark the device’s 20th anniversary. This news contradicts previous rumours suggesting the Cupertino-based company had abandoned the plan. According to a report cited by GSM Arena, the 2027 Pro models are expected to be named the iPhone 20 and iPhone 20 Pro Max. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicates that these models will showcase a design with a significant glass presence, featuring curved glass on the front that seamlessly meets a metal frame. Internally, the devices are reportedly codenamed V73 and V74. While Apple has explored a more heavily glass-focused concept, that particular design was reportedly shelved due to challenges in mass production. The company is also expected to introduce slightly larger displays, improved cooling systems, and a design as thin as the anticipated iPhone Air. This move towards a glass aesthetic aligns with Apple’s long-term vision, previously hinted at with the ‘liquid glass’ design language introduced in iOS 26. Earlier speculation from supply chain analyst Edison Lee of Jefferies had claimed the all-glass design was cancelled due to extremely low production yields, but the latest information suggests the original plan remains in place.
