Apple Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America on Apple Maps

Diplomatic tensions between the United States and Canada have now extended into the digital realm. Tech giant Apple has officially renamed Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ on its mapping service application. This move follows an executive order from US President Donald Trump as part of the intensifying trade dispute between Washington and Ottawa.

This name change applies specifically to Apple Maps users based in the United States. Meanwhile, users in Canada will continue to see the name Lake Ontario on their device screens. Apple’s move follows a similar action taken by Google Maps several days earlier, which triggered a strong reaction on social media.
