Apple releases iOS 27 public beta with AI-powered Siri

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Apple has released the iOS 27 Public Beta to the public, allowing iPhone users to try out the artificial intelligence (AI)-based virtual assistant Siri ahead of its official launch this autumn.

According to a TechCrunch report on Tuesday (14 July) local time, this public trial programme marks the first time Apple has made the new AI-powered version of Siri available to users outside the app developer community.

AI Siri was first introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Through the update, Siri — previously limited to receiving simple voice commands — has been transformed into a smarter digital assistant capable of understanding context provided by the user, much like AI chatbots in general.

The virtual assistant can also understand content currently displayed on screen and combine it with information from the internet to deliver more relevant answers.

Apple has also expanded Siri’s integration within the operating system. In addition to being activated via the voice command “Hey Siri” or the button on the side of the device, users can now access it through the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen.

Siri is also connected to the Spotlight search feature, allowing it to be used to find answers to a variety of questions directly.

For the first time, Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app. The app is aimed at users already accustomed to interacting with AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Gemini.

However, because Siri is already integrated into the operating system, users can still access it without having to open a dedicated app.

In addition to being available on iPhone through iOS 27, AI Siri is also present on a range of other Apple devices, including the iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, CarPlay, AirPods, Apple TV and Vision Pro.
