Apple has released the iOS 26.5.1 operating system for users of the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 series. Although it is considered a minor update, users of these two iPhone models are advised to download the software immediately as it contains bug fixes related to charging.

The bug causes devices to fail to initiate the wired charging process when the battery is at a very low or near-depleted level. Under normal conditions, an iPhone should immediately respond when a charging cable is plugged in by displaying the charging indicator and beginning the process. However, on affected devices, the system fails to recognise the power connection, meaning charging does not proceed even if the cable and adapter are in good working order.

Apple stated that this issue only affects a small number of users, but it is considered significant enough to warrant an immediate fix as it pertains to a fundamental device function: power charging. As the primary focus is bug fixing, iOS 26.5.1 does not introduce new features or significant interface changes. Apple had previously rolled out iOS 26.5, which introduced several new features, including enhancements to Apple Intelligence, such as more accurate notification summaries and expanded AI capabilities in native applications like Mail and Notes. iOS 26.5 also brought improvements to the Photos app with tidier automatic grouping, as well as performance and battery efficiency optimisations for various iPhone models.

As of Tuesday (2/6/2026), iOS 26.5.1 is available for download by users in Indonesia. On the iPhone Air model tested, the iOS 26.5.1 update is available with a file size of 9.8 GB. In addition to iOS 26.5.1, Apple has also released macOS 26.5.1 for Mac computers. This update is intended to fix a bug that causes Mac computers powered by M5 chips to shut down unexpectedly under certain conditions, according to reports from GSM Arena.

Apple has not yet disclosed exactly how many users are affected by these issues. The release of iOS 26.5.1 and macOS 26.5.1 comes ahead of Apple’s annual developer conference, the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026. During the event, which begins on 8 June, Apple is expected to introduce the next generation of operating systems, namely iOS 27 and macOS 27. Following their introduction at WWDC, these new operating systems are expected to be released widely in September 2026, alongside the launch of the latest iPhone generation.
