Apple preparing AI-based home security system and services

Apple is reportedly preparing an artificial intelligence (AI) based home security system and service.

According to reports from Macrumors on Friday (4/9), Apple is designing a home security camera that prioritises privacy, using AI to monitor the surrounding environment rather than creating actual video recordings. The camera is expected to operate alongside new home security and monitoring services, although the company has not yet provided detailed information regarding these services.

According to a Bloomberg report cited by Macrumors, Apple is likely to release this AI-based home security system and service in 2027. Apple has also planned to release a home hub to control smart home devices before the end of 2026.

Previous rumours suggested the development of a camera to complement this device. The wireless camera is rumoured to feature Siri integration and connect directly to the smart home hub.

HomeKit Secure Video already features end-to-end encryption and utilises iCloud to securely stream and store video from HomeKit-compatible cameras. Apple has also enhanced HomeKit camera features in iOS 17.

The Home app can now generate written summaries for motion alerts, display highlights, and group recordings from various cameras. The use of these new features requires an iCloud+ 2TB plan or higher, while HomeKit Secure Video requires a 50GB plan or larger.
