Apple Pays Out Rp 1.6 Million to iPhone 16 Owners
Apple has agreed to pay up to US$95, or approximately Rp 1.6 million, to iPhone users in the United States following a class-action lawsuit related to misleading promotions of the artificial intelligence (AI) feature Siri. Citing APNews on Monday (11/5/2025), the US$250 million lawsuit settlement was filed in the San Francisco federal court in California. The lawsuit accused Apple of advertising new Siri capabilities through the ‘Apple Intelligence’ feature before the technology was actually available for consumer use. The case began when Apple launched the iPhone 16 series in 2024, at which time the company heavily promoted the AI-based Siri upgrade as a key feature of their latest devices. However, two years later, the major Siri upgrade has still not been fully released, leading to consumer disappointment over purchasing devices based on unavailable features. The lawsuit documents state that consumers would not have bought the devices or would have paid less if they had known the Siri AI feature was not ready for use. This settlement covers approximately 37 million devices purchased in the US from 10 June 2024 to 29 March 2025, including all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Each user could receive compensation of at least US$25 per device, potentially rising to US$95 depending on the number of claims filed and other factors. Apple stated that the settlement allows the company to continue focusing on developing innovative products and services for users. Amid the global AI boom, Apple has been seen as lagging behind competitors like Google and Samsung, who have been more aggressive in introducing AI features on their devices. Nevertheless, Apple claims to have launched various new AI features since introducing Apple Intelligence, including Visual Intelligence and Live Translations. The company is also expected to announce the latest Siri updates at its annual developer conference next month.
