Apple has opened its fifth training academy for Apple Developers in Indonesia, specifically in Jakarta, as part of Cupertino’s commitment to invest in the country and fulfil the mandatory domestic component level (TKDN) requirement.

Apple previously faced delays in marketing the iPhone 16 series in Indonesia due to failure to meet the government’s TKDN requirements for selling 4G and 5G network technology devices. In March 2025, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) issued TKDN certification with a value of 40% for Apple products in Indonesia.

Apple chose an investment scheme to meet TKDN requirements by establishing Apple Developer Academy facilities. With the opening of the latest facility in Jakarta, there are now five Apple Developer Academies across Indonesia in various regions. The first Apple Developer Academy was launched in Tangerang in 2018, followed by facilities in Surabaya (2019), Batam (2020), Bali (2025), and Jakarta (2026).

The fifth training centre is operated by Apple in partnership with Ciputra University, with the Apple Developer Academy Jakarta located at Autograph Tower. For its inaugural cohort, Apple will welcome 100 developers and entrepreneurs, with expansion planned to accommodate over 200 participants annually from next year onwards.

The training centre aims to equip prospective Indonesian developers and entrepreneurs with professional skills required in the technology sector and applications industry. According to Apple Indonesia, the first cohort in Jakarta comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, including students, recent graduates, and professionals aged 18 to 40 from 33 cities across Indonesia.

Ryan Tjandra, Head of Apple Developer Academy Jakarta, stated that each training facility represents not only expanded access to world-class education but also the growth of an innovator community shaping the future of technology in Indonesia. Tjandra is himself an Apple Developer Academy alumnus.

“I am very enthusiastic about welcoming hundreds of other Indonesian participants who will discover their potential at Apple Developer Academy, build digital solutions for real problems, and create broad impact for Indonesia and globally,” Tjandra said in a written statement.

With the addition of the Jakarta Apple Developer Academy, by 2026 Apple’s initiatives in Indonesia are claimed to be ready to support over 700 participants from 77 cities and 27 provinces to develop applications addressing personal, community, and global challenges whilst delivering positive global impact inclusively.

Using Apple’s distinctive challenge-based learning model, participants will engage in a ten-month programme teaching coding fundamentals, design, artificial intelligence, project management, and other skills.
