Apple opens education centre for its supplier workers in Vietnam

Apple has opened an Apple Education Center in Hanoi, Vietnam, to expand training and skills development programmes for workers in the company’s supply chain in the country.

According to a Macrumors report on Thursday (27/6) local time, the education centre is the first built by Apple in Vietnam and is scheduled to begin offering various educational programmes in autumn this year, between September and December. The programmes are run in partnership with Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST).

Apple and its supplier partners currently run nearly 20 education programmes for workers in Vietnam.

In addition to technical skills, Apple also provides leadership training and non-technical skills. The programme is designed to help workers develop their careers, both in their current roles and in transitioning to new jobs.

The education centre in Hanoi is part of a programme funded through the US$50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund, equivalent to Rp885 billion, launched by Apple in 2022.

Apple says more than nine million education and training sessions have been delivered through the programme to date.

Meanwhile, more than 108,000 supplier workers have taken Swift programming courses provided through the programme since 2017.

In addition to skills training, the fund is also used to support education on workers’ rights and a number of health programmes.

The health programmes supported include health and fitness education, mental health, and disease screening.
