Apple has officially introduced the latest version of its virtual assistant, Siri, which is now powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The announcement was made during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026.

According to reports, the virtual assistant, now referred to as Siri AI, is scheduled to be available in beta version by the end of this year. With this update, Apple is transitioning Siri from a voice-command-based assistant into an AI-based digital companion capable of engaging in two-way conversations with users.

Siri AI will be accompanied by a dedicated Siri application and will be able to utilise up-to-date knowledge from various sources to answer user queries. Furthermore, the virtual assistant can access information stored on the device and provide responses based on the content currently displayed on the screen. When users request information, Siri AI will display results in the form of text cards containing information from the internet as well as data from messages and other applications on the device.

Users can access Siri by swiping down on the Dynamic Island to perform searches or initiate text-based conversations. In addition to using the “Hey Siri” voice command, users can also activate the virtual assistant via the device’s side button.

Apple also introduced the “Write with Siri” feature, which assists users in drafting messages or emails. This feature can adjust the writing style based on the user’s communication habits with specific contacts. For example, if a user typically sends brief messages to a supervisor, Siri will adapt its writing style to match the communication style used in previous emails to that person.

Apple stated that Siri AI is capable of performing more complex tasks, such as composing messages based on specific topics by utilising information from the internet, previous emails, calendars, contact lists, and other data available on the device. To enhance personalisation, users can adjust the speed and vocal expression of Siri AI according to their individual preferences.

Apple has also improved dictation features across the operating system, providing higher accuracy in recognising spelling, punctuation, and capitalisation. On Mac devices, Apple is integrating Siri into the Spotlight feature, allowing users to access the virtual assistant from various parts of the system. Meanwhile, on watchOS, users can ask questions and perform various actions directly through the Apple Watch.

Through this update, Apple is positioning Siri to compete with other AI services such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This change represents one of the most significant transformations for Siri since its initial introduction as a voice-based virtual assistant.
