Apple Launches Its First Touchscreen MacBook Pro, Coming Soon to Indonesia
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Apple has made a fresh push in the global laptop market with its latest MacBook Pro range, equipped with a PROLED XDR display based on tandem OLED technology. The new generation comes in 14-inch and 16-inch versions and introduces features including a touchscreen, Dynamic Island and the M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets.
Apple Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji said the integration of hardware, software and Apple Silicon in the new MacBook Pro set a new benchmark for professional laptop performance worldwide.
“The new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display is a major step forward for the Mac. Combined with the magic of touch and the high performance of M5 Pro and M5 Max, we have created a new way for professionals to interact with their content,” Srouji said in a statement, quoted from Apple’s official website on Thursday (29 October 2026).
PROLED XDR display and touchscreen debut on Mac
The MacBook Pro’s main innovation is its PROLED XDR display, which uses a two-layer tandem OLED pixel structure. The panel offers peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, an adaptive 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, and a wide colour gamut supporting P3 and Adobe RGB.
For the first time in the history of Mac computers, Apple has added touch capability directly to the display panel to minimise latency. Users can interact intuitively by moving a design canvas, playing digital instruments in Logic Pro or navigating apps directly with their fingers.
Dynamic Island, another familiar feature, has also come to the Mac display, helping users check notifications, control music playback and track Live Activities in real time.
Thinner design and lower weight
Despite adding a range of new features, Apple says it has made the MacBook Pro slimmer and more portable:
14-inch model (14.2-inch display): weight reduced by 0.23kg to 1.38kg.
16-inch model (16.3-inch display): weight reduced by 0.32kg to 1.82kg, with the body nearly 1mm thinner.
The thermal architecture has also been updated to keep computing performance stable without directing heat towards the display.
M5 Pro and M5 Max performance
The latest MacBook Pro is powered by the high-end M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Both processors have GPUs with a Neural Accelerator in every core and a third-generation ray-tracing engine to speed up AI workloads and complex 3D modelling.
M5 Pro: Designed for software developers, scientists and video editors working with ProRes 8K video streams.
M5 Max: Aimed at 3D VFX artists and AI developers, with configurations supporting up to 128GB of unified memory to run local large language models (LLMs) with hundreds of billions of parameters.
Storage: Configurable up to 16TB.
Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and immersive audio
The audio system has been substantially updated with a new six-speaker system capable of producing bass that is 50% deeper. Apple has also added automatic audio adjustment when the laptop is used with its lid closed and connected to an external display.
Other features include:
Ports: Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack.
External displays: Support for up to three external displays with M5 Pro and up to four with M5 Max.
Wireless: Apple-designed N1 wireless chip supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Battery: Up to 24 hours of battery life, with fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes.
Operating system: Ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Apple confirmed that the MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display, available in Space Black and Silver, will soon be sold in Indonesia. Its local price has not yet been announced.
