Apple Launches Its First Foldable Phone: iPhone Duo
Apple’s annual event always captures global public attention, and this September 2026 edition felt different. For the first time, the grand stage was led directly by John Ternus, the new CEO of Apple.
This event witnessed a new chapter in history through a series of announcements bringing changes to the hardware and software ecosystem of the Cupertino-based tech giant. The biggest surprise and the ‘one more thing’ moment was the appearance of the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable phone that has been anticipated for years. Featuring a unique design resembling a passport when closed, the iPhone Duo is claimed to be the thinnest iPhone ever produced.
The device is equipped with a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external display. Both maintain a consistent aspect ratio, ensuring a very natural transition during use.
According to The Verge on Thursday (10/9/2026), the specifications of the iPhone Duo are impressive. It is powered by the latest A20 Pro chipset, an in-house Apple C2 cellular modem, a 48-megapixel main camera, and a nanotexture coating on the screen to minimise light reflections.
This foldable phone also supports the use of the Apple Pencil, which will be launched at the end of the year, and relies on Touch ID sensors on the side button. Its durability is supported by two separate batteries capable of providing up to 31 hours of video playback on the internal screen and 44 hours on the external screen. Priced starting from 1,999 USD (approximately Rp34.9 million) in star white and night sky colour options, the device will officially go on sale starting 23 October 2026.
Interestingly, Apple chose to skip the release of standard variants and went straight to introducing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This latest Pro line highlights the most significant camera improvements in recent years. The 48-megapixel main camera is now equipped with a mechanical variable aperture and new Pro controls, providing extra flexibility for photography enthusiasts.
