Apple Investment Set to Grow Through Huayou Partnership

Jakarta: The investment process by US-based company Apple is reportedly progressing well. Investment from the global technology giant is also expected to increase significantly going forward.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani revealed that Apple's investment in Batam has passed the land selection stage and factory construction will commence shortly. This continues despite the ongoing trade war.

"We see that Apple's investment, based on our communication with them, will actually increase. Because we are in talks with three other Apple vendors to invest in Indonesia," said Rosan at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.

What is interesting about the development of Apple's investment, Rosan added, is the connection between the US company's capital investment and Chinese company Huayou. The Chinese firm reportedly supplies 340 product components for Apple products such as the iPhone 16.

"Apple products are supplied by Huayou because for one handset there are 340 products, for example for the iPhone 16. Many come from China. Huayou is coming to Indonesia, so later from Indonesia they can also supply Apple with its components," Rosan explained.

"And those are exempt from tariffs — laptops and handsets are exempt from tariffs. This is an opportunity we are trying to explore further so that investment into Indonesia can increase, particularly in the technology sector," he added.
