Apple Intelligence Users Can Choose Third-Party AI Models in iOS 27
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Apple appears to be solidifying its AI strategy, with reports indicating that its users may soon be able to choose third-party AI models and integrate them with Apple Intelligence in iOS 27.
Engadget, on Tuesday (5/5), reported that this information was first revealed by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who stated that these changes could be felt in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.
Internally, Apple refers to these third-party AI services as Extensions. As extensions, third-party AI services registered in the App Store programme will support various Apple AI capabilities.
This news reinforces that Apple is indeed designing Apple Intelligence to be compatible with other AI models this year.
Bloomberg also reported in March 2026 that Apple’s upcoming AI chatbot would support users in selecting their preferred AI model.
This step clearly differs from what competitors are doing; Apple has been perceived as slow in artificial intelligence development, and its strategy has attracted significant attention and raised many questions.
This strategy focuses more on offering flexibility and choices to users rather than developing a sufficiently strong internal model to directly compete with chatbots that have been on the market for the past few years.
However, considering the numerous delays and initial failures, this may be Apple’s way of at least actively participating in the AI industry’s development.
