Apple faces £2 billion lawsuit

London (ANTARA) - A lawsuit worth £2 billion (1 pound sterling = Rp2.3898) against Apple was filed in the United Kingdom on Thursday (3/9) concerning its app tracking rules, which are alleged to impose strict restrictions on third parties, according to local media reports.

The lawsuit was brought on behalf of app developers regarding the app tracking transparency framework implemented by Apple in 2021. According to reports, Apple is accused of providing a competitive advantage to its own advertising ecosystem by imposing stricter requirements on third-party app developers compared to its own services.

Apple stated that its app tracking transparency was designed to provide users with a simple way to control whether apps have permission to track their activities, and that Apple is subject to the exact same requirements as all other developers.

Regulators in several other European countries, including Germany, France, and Italy, are also investigating Apple’s app tracking transparency framework.
