Jakarta - US technology giant Apple has been confirmed to build a factory in Batam, Indonesia this year. Head of the Batam Concession Agency (BP Batam), Amsakar Achmad, said Apple's investment will be located in the Tunas Industrial Prima zone.

"The plan is already well-developed, it's just that their discussions need to be finalised with the tenant first. Once the tenant arrangement with Tunas (Tunas Industrial Prima zone) is completed, they will publish everything, but it's already clear. The factory construction will hopefully proceed this year," he said when met at the House of Representatives building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (9/7/2025).

He indicated that the factory to be built relates to Apple technology. However, he did not provide a clear picture of what products Apple would manufacture in Batam.

"It's an IT project in line with their core business," he added.

Previously, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Nurul Ichwan, confirmed last week that the AirTag factory investment by US technology giant Apple in Batam remains on track. Apple was said to have already secured land and is serious about building the factory.

Regarding when the factory would be built, Nurul could not yet confirm. However, based on the latest meeting with Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Apple stated it had already purchased land for the factory.

"In the latest meeting with the minister, they conveyed that they have completed land acquisition and will build there. Certainly, if they have already purchased land, there is no way they would not invest," he said at his office in South Jakarta on Wednesday (23/4/2025).
