Appearing After Shooting, Trump Says US Presidency is a Dangerous Job

US President Donald Trump appeared after being evacuated due to a shooting at an event he was attending. Trump described the US presidency as a dangerous job. According to CNN, on Sunday (26/4/2026), Trump made these remarks during a press conference at the White House after being evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton hotel on Saturday (25/4) night. Trump initially joked that if he had known the presidency was so dangerous, he might not have run for office. He then stated that he was prepared for such risks. “Listen, I’m here to do the job. That’s part of the job. It’s dangerous, I can’t imagine a more dangerous profession. But I love this country, and I’m very proud. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done,” Trump said. Trump stated that the perpetrator, identified as Cole Tomas Allen (31), was suspected to be a ‘lone wolf’ operating alone. He said law enforcement officials were continuing their investigation. “They seem to think he’s a lone wolf. And I feel that way too,” he said. Trump said the suspect ‘attacked from 50 yards (about 46 metres)’ from the ballroom where the event was held. Trump noted that the event room was very secure. “So he was very far from the room,” the president said. However, it remains unclear how the armed man was able to enter the event location. He then praised the Secret Service’s response. He said he had spoken with the shot Secret Service agent and that his condition had improved. “Very impressive,” he said. He stated that the incident ‘brings us together’. He described the annual dinner with journalists as a symbol of freedom in the US. “I ask all Americans to recommit wholeheartedly and to resolve our differences peacefully. We must resolve our differences. I would say there are Republicans, Democrats, independents, conservatives, liberals, and progressives. Those words can be interchangeable,” he said.
