Appearance of Ombudsman RI Chairman in Pink Vest as He is Officially Detained by Attorney General's Office
The Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Hery Susanto, was seen walking towards a detention vehicle at the Attorney General’s Office building in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026). The Attorney General’s Office has designated him as a suspect in the ongoing investigation, and he was observed exiting the Special Criminal Division (Pidsus) building wearing a pink detention vest. The Attorney General’s Office stated that it would reveal details of the case later in the afternoon. (CNBC Indonesia/Faisal Rahman) The Head of the Legal Information Centre at the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatno, hinted at the possibility of other suspects in this case. “Wait a moment, there are other suspects,” he said at the Attorney General’s Office. (CNBC Indonesia/Faisal Rahman) Hery Susanto had recently assumed the position of Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026–2031 period. He was officially inaugurated after taking the oath of office in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on 10 April 2026, succeeding Mokhammad Najih who led the previous period. (CNBC Indonesia/Faisal Rahman) The Director of Investigations at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, explained that the case implicating Hery relates to the governance of nickel mining operations during the 2013–2025 period in Southeast Sulawesi. The case originated from issues with the calculation of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) by the Ministry of Forestry against PT TSHI. (CNBC Indonesia/Faisal Rahman) In the process, Hery is alleged to have played a role in arranging for PT TSHI to calculate its own PNBP burden that needed to be paid. He is also said to have been involved in efforts to correct the Ministry of Forestry’s policies through the Ombudsman. For his actions, Hery has been charged with violations of Articles 12 letters a and b as well as Article 606 of the new Criminal Code, and he will be detained for the next 20 days at Salemba Detention Centre in Jakarta.
