Appeal to women candidates
Appeal to women candidates
From Media Indonesia
Women have in fact played a role in our government since Indonesia first gained independence. Various woman figures have become political fighters, joining hands with their male counterparts in the struggle against Dutch colonizers.
It is not surprising that women of today as the succeeding generation are carrying on the struggle of their predecessors. What the public expects, however, is that the following expression about a woman will not come true: "In the beginning she is warm and explosive, in the middle she is calm and passive, and in the end she is careless and no more".
Should this be the case, our heroine Kartini would feel very sad and would weep. We should instead do as our first president Sukarno taught us: "If you stand in my way you will be crushed". I am sure our woman activists like Nurul Arifin and Dyah Pitaloka will agree.
