Appeal to minister of communications
Appeal to minister of communications
From Koran Tempo
After the appointment of the new Minister of Transportation
Hatta Radjasa my first expectation was that there would be a very
marked improvement in public transportation. But in reality, no
changes have taken place.
First, transportation by minivans remains in confusion, with
an excessive number of these vehicles on the roads due to easy
licensing, so that under-capacity can be found particularly in
the Greater Jakarta area.
Second, traveling by train is no longer comfortable especially
on economy-class routes. Many people still sit on train roofs
while railway cars and stations are mostly dirty, with noticeable
over-capacity.
Third, air-conditioned and regular buses offer no convenience
either. Therefore, the question arises whether the minister has
any intention at all of creating an orderly, comfortable and
rapid system of public transportation.
If the minister is incapable of introducing any change, it
would be wise for him to resign because many other competent
authorities are prepared to fill the position.
