APPBI Extends Indonesia Shopping Festival 2026
The General Chair of the Indonesian Shopping Centre Managers Association (APPBI), Alphonzus Widjaja, stated that the 2026 Indonesia Shopping Festival (ISF) serves not only as a celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia but also as an effort to stimulate public purchasing power amidst the economic challenges facing the retail sector. According to Widjaja, this year’s ISF has been extended from 11 days to 17 days and will take place from 7–23 August 2026 across 407 shopping centres throughout Indonesia. This measure was taken to provide the public with a greater opportunity to take advantage of various promotional programmes and discounts.
“The goal is not just to celebrate, but also to help support public purchasing power, particularly for the lower-middle class, which has experienced pressure in recent years,” Widjaya said during an ISF 2026 press conference at the Ministry of Trade on Thursday, 30 July 2026. He noted that both the global economic condition and domestic challenges continue to exert pressure on the retail industry. Consequently, organisers have prepared various promotional programmes and prizes to encourage shopping and maintain household consumption as a pillar of national economic growth.
In addition to boosting retail transactions, the ISF is also aimed at strengthening shopping tourism. The General Chair of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), Hariyadi Sukamdani, stated that the festival’s momentum can be utilised to attract both domestic and international tourists to Indonesia. He added that GIPI will assist in promoting the ISF through its tourism networks, including international markets, ensuring that tourists do not merely visit but also shop at Indonesian shopping centres.
“We must seize this good momentum to increase sales. We will also push promotions abroad through our existing networks,” said Hariyadi. The ISF 2026 is a collaboration between APPBI, APRINDO, and HIPPINDO, with support from the Ministry of Trade, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and the Ministry of Tourism. The festival is expected to strengthen public consumption while simultaneously increasing shopping tourism visits to Indonesia.
