Apparel Convention opens

HONG KONG (JP): The World Apparel Convention opens tomorrow at the Hong Kong International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The two-day convention, scheduled to be opened by Sunyoto, president of the International Apparel Federation, will draw 600 participants from international textile and garment industries. Sunyoto is also president of the Great River International based in Jakarta.

The convention will address issues facing the international textile and garment trade with the advent of the global market and the 21st century.

Among keynote speakers are Indonesian Minister of Industry and Trade Tunky Ariwibowo and Hong Kong's Deputy Secretary for Trade and Industry Tam Wing Pong. Indonesian designer Iwan Tirta will also address the convention on Fashion -- The Universal Language.

The convention will also discuss the prospects for retailing and its market in the next millennium which will be presented by Susan Butterworth, senior vice president of creative resources of Walt Disney Consumer Products.

Designers including Giorgio Armani, Nino Cerruti and Donna Karan are also expected to attend the convention. (raw)
