JAKARTA — To mark the sacred month of Ramadan, APP Group has partnered with Pisang Goreng Madu Bu Nanik, a small-to-medium enterprise, to distribute approximately 1,500 iftar packages to residents in the Sinar Mas Land Thamrin area of Jakarta.

The iftar distribution was primarily aimed at online motorcycle taxi drivers, traders, and members of the public passing through the area as the evening fasting-breaking time approached. Each package contained light food and beverages for breaking the fast, including the honey-fried bananas that are the signature product of the UMKM.

APP Group Director Suhendra Wiriadinata stated that the iftar-sharing initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to implementing social initiatives aligned with sustainability principles.

According to Suhendra, Ramadan represents an ideal opportunity to strengthen the values of care and togetherness within the community. He added that the sharing activity could also proceed in tandem with efforts to protect the environment through the use of more environmentally friendly packaging.

The iftar packages were wrapped using Foopak Greaseproof Paper, a plastic-free, fibre-based food packaging paper that is fully recyclable. This packaging product holds various food safety certifications, including halal certification and international standards for direct food contact use.

APP Group Specialty Paper Head Lusiana Gomulia regarded the collaboration with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as an important step towards expanding the use of more environmentally friendly food packaging.

She explained that the packaging used in the iftar-sharing initiative is also the packaging used by Pisang Goreng Madu Bu Nanik in its daily business operations. The collaboration is therefore expected to encourage more enterprises to transition towards more sustainable packaging.

Meanwhile, Bu Nanik, owner of Pisang Goreng Madu Bu Nanik, stated that product quality and packaging hygiene are important considerations in running her business.

She noted that the use of paper-based packaging helps maintain product quality whilst providing a more environmentally friendly alternative to single-use plastic packaging.

Through this iftar-sharing initiative, APP Group and the UMKM hope to foster a spirit of generosity during Ramadan whilst raising public awareness about the importance of responsible food packaging practices towards the environment.
