Apology from 'TPI'

In response to the letter of Putu BK in regards the mystery
program Gentayangan aired by TPI (Kompas, July 10), we apologize
for the live broadcast of the Hindu shrine, Pura Masceti in
Gianyar, Bali, which entailed protests from the Balinese and
Hindu communities.

We did not intend to offend the Balinese or other Hindu
followers in the country, and this location was chosen based only
on artistic and esthetic considerations, as the backdrop of
Balinese customs and religious values would enhance the show.

Before the shooting at Pura Masceti, our production team
contacted the local authorities and obtained their permission.

However, we must admit we overlooked the possibility of
causing any offense to or generating objection from the Balinese
public, particularly Balinese Hindus.

We will strive to act with greater care and sensitivity so
that other TPI programs related to Bali will be beneficial, not
only to our station, but also to the Balinese and Hindu
communities.
