APINDO Voices Concern Over Disruption to Electric Vehicle Factory Project in Subang
The Indonesian Employers' Association (APINDO) has voiced its concern over disruptions to an electric vehicle factory construction project in Subang, West Java, involving intervention by certain groups.
APINDO Chairman Shinta Kamdani stressed that the incident once again highlights the importance of legal certainty and investment protection in maintaining a healthy and conducive business climate in Indonesia.
"Consistent law enforcement will be an important signal that Indonesia is serious about protecting all stakeholders who contribute to economic development," Shinta told Kontan on Sunday (27/4).
According to APINDO, the electric vehicle factory project is part of a new wave of investment in the manufacturing sector that is crucial for national industrial growth and job creation. Disruptions to strategic projects such as this are feared to erode investor confidence, both domestic and foreign, in Indonesia's ability to guarantee business stability.
APINDO emphasised that the investment climate is not only influenced by incentives and ease of licensing, but also depends heavily on security guarantees, legal certainty, and social stability at the local level. Actions outside the legal corridor, such as intimidation, coercion, or illegal levies, are regarded as serious threats to investment continuity.
Civil society organisations are recognised as playing an important role in development, but APINDO stressed that the abuse of social power by certain individuals must be met with firm action by authorities and the government.
To that end, APINDO is calling for stronger synergy between the central government, regional governments, and law enforcement agencies to ensure investment projects can proceed without non-technical obstacles that harm the public interest.
"Cross-sector collaboration is greatly needed to create fair governance that supports the growth of the real sector in Indonesia," said Shinta.
Through the spirit of Indonesia Incorporated, APINDO expressed its commitment as a strategic partner of the government in promoting a healthy, competitive, and sustainable business climate. Firm law enforcement and guaranteed business certainty are key to ensuring Indonesia's potential as a global investment destination can be fully realised.
"Firmness in law enforcement and commitment to business certainty are essential foundations to ensure that Indonesia's potential as a global investment destination can be realised in concrete terms," she concluded.
