Apindo: Labour Bill Must Support Investment and Productivity

The Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) believes the revised Labour Bill must be able to build an ecosystem that supports investment and national productivity.

Apindo Chairwoman Shinta W. Kamdani said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday that this is in line with the aims of the government, trade unions, and the business community to achieve labour reform.

“We all share the same aspirations: workers become more prosperous, job opportunities expand, and businesses can grow healthily. Labour reform must ensure worker protection goes hand in hand with job creation, increased productivity, and strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness,” Shinta said.

She added that changes in the economy, technology, industrial structure, and workforce competency needs demand a more adaptive and forward-looking Indonesian labour system.

Shinta continued that Apindo views the availability of decent, productive, and sustainable jobs as a fundamental part of worker protection.

“Therefore, the Labour Protection and Job Expansion Bill is not enough if it only regulates existing employment relationships, but it also needs to build an ecosystem that supports investment, productivity, competency improvement, and the creation of broader and higher-quality formal employment,” Shinta said.
