APEKSI National Working Meeting in Medan Produces 10 Recommendations

The XVIII National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Association of Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) held in Medan has produced ten recommendations to be submitted to the central government. APEKSI Chairman Eri Cahyadi stated that the recommendations represent a consensus among all participants regarding regional development in their respective areas. “With the hope that, given the shortcomings present in every city, these recommendations will convey the solutions,” Eri said during a press conference following the closing of the APEKSI Rakernas in Medan on Thursday. Eri detailed that the ten recommendations from the national event include strengthening fiscal capacity and reforming central and regional government financial relations; structuring policies for state civil apparatus and government employees with work agreements; and providing flexibility in regional spending. “Sixth, we also recommend strengthening environmental resilience and sustainable cities, and seventh concerns strengthening the local economy and inclusive development,” he said. Furthermore, Eri added that mayors from across Indonesia recommended strengthening spatial planning, regional development cooperation, and recommendations on legal advocacy and mitigation. “And lastly, regarding the involvement of young people in every national activity, in every APEKSI activity, young people from all over Indonesia,” he said. “We will convey these recommendations to the central government, including to the ministries.” The XVIII APEKSI National Working Meeting in Medan, which took place from 1 to 2 July 2026, was closed by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
