APEC Finance Ministers’ Meeting Concludes with Practical Achievements
Hong Kong (ANTARA) — The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers’ Meeting concluded in Hong Kong, southern China, on Wednesday (21 October), achieving a number of practical outcomes, according to China’s Ministry of Finance.
The meeting reviewed and adopted the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers’ Joint Statement and a Policy Statement on Financing Digital Infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific Region, providing guidance for deepening financial cooperation among APEC member economies, the ministry said in an online statement.
Other documents were also produced, including a report on fiscal policy considerations for sustaining economic growth in APEC and a compendium on financial access and opportunities for all.
APEC member economies also agreed to promote capacity-building and exchanges for young finance professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.
China’s Finance Minister Lan Fo’an, who chaired the meeting, emphasised APEC’s role as a key platform for strengthening macroeconomic policy coordination and advancing regional economic integration.
All members should remain committed to implementing the consensus reached at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, uphold multilateralism and deepen practical fiscal and financial cooperation, thereby contributing to regional economic and financial stability and sustainable long-term growth, Lan said.
The meeting, held from Tuesday (20 October) to Wednesday, was attended by more than 300 delegates from APEC member economies, APEC observers and relevant international organisations.
Participants discussed a range of topics, including global and regional economic and financial prospects, fiscal policies supporting households, digital infrastructure financing, financial access and opportunities for all, and the APEC Young Finance Professionals Dialogue.
Lan outlined the continuing positive momentum in China’s economy, marked by stronger innovation, improved growth quality and steady progress. He also stressed that China would remain firmly committed to high-quality development, accelerate the development of new growth drivers and step up efforts to expand domestic demand.
China would continue to promote high-standard opening-up and create new opportunities for the Asia-Pacific region and beyond through further progress in Chinese modernisation, Lan added.
