JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will soon begin the construction of six blocks of low-cost apartments in the flood- prone area of Kampung Legok in Cawang, East Jakarta.
The head of the City Public Housing Agency, Irzal Djamal, said during a break in a City Council plenary session on Thursday his office was negotiating the amount of compensation for 166 families who will be affected by the project.
Irzal said the city administration had allocated Rp 5 billion from the 2001 city budget to relocate the families.
If families have ownership documents for their land they will be paid the market price for the land, while families who have land-use permits will receive 25 percent of the market price.
The six apartment blocks will stand on 5.6 hectares of land.
Irzal said relocated families would have the opportunity to rent an apartment for Rp 125,000 a month. They can also rent an apartment in Bidara Cina for Rp 250,000 a month, he added. (jun)
