JAKARTA (JP): The Tangerang administration is currently
developing low cost apartments for factory workers at Alam Jaya
village.
Tangerang Mayor Djakaria Machmud laid the cornerstone marking
the start of the construction of the apartments on Saturday.
The Tangerang administration has allocated Rp 1.5 billion
($681,818) of its annual budget for the construction of the
apartments being built on a two hectare plot of land.
An administration official said that development of the low
cost apartments was a pilot project designed to accommodate
thousands of people working in the some 1,000 factories in
Tangerang and its vicinity.
The West Jakarta mayoralty is also planning to build low-cost
apartments in Angke.
The mayoralty has appropriated a plot of land for the project.
West Jakarta vice mayor Syhahrin Lumbantoruan said the
mayoralty would provide proper compensation to the people whose
houses are affected by the project.
So far 42 of the 82 families living on the land appropriated
for the project have accepted the compensation. The other 40
families have refused the compensation rate because they feel it
is inadequate.
Some of the residents who have refused the compensation rate
are demanding that the mayoralty set the rate at Rp 400,000 per
square meter. The rate set by the mayoralty for land under state
ownership is Rp 230,000 per square meter.
The mayoralty has set compensation rates on the basis of the
status of the land. The rate for land under private ownership
rights is Rp 517,000 per square meter.
Syahrin said the mayoralty gave area residents two weeks after
accepting the compensation to demolish their houses. If they do
not demolish the structures by themselves, officials of the
mayoralty will do the job. (29)
