Apartment for workers mulled

TANGERANG: Regent Ismet Iskandar plans to build low cost apartments for industrial workers in Cikupa, Pasar Kemis and Balaraja districts.

"The factory workers are the regency assets ... they deserve healthier living places," he said on Friday.

Currently there were 270,000 workers at 2,950 firms in the regency, whose presence had apparently contributed to the rapid growth of slum areas around the industrial zones.

The regency was now holding a feasibility study for the plan before submitting its proposal to the Ministry of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure. -- JP
