The closure has affected flight connectivity to and from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, with an estimated impact until Monday (7/9) at 18.00 WIB.

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) — PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the branch office of Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar, has stated that flights on the Jakarta route and vice versa at the airport remain affected by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau (GAK).

“Soekarno-Hatta Airport has been declared temporarily closed (Aerodome Closed) due to volcanic ash from 08.28 WIB until an estimated 18.00 WIB on 7 September 2026,” said Rahmat Adil Indrawan, General Manager of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, in Blang Bintang on Monday.

He explained that the closure had affected flight connectivity to and from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, with an estimated impact until Monday (7/9) at 18.00 WIB.

He said a number of flights on the Banda Aceh–Jakarta and Jakarta–Banda Aceh routes had been cancelled, as flights to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport could not operate during the closure period.

According to him, the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, which spread volcanic ash, had affected operations at several airports, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).

The management of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport continues to coordinate with airlines and all relevant stakeholders to monitor developments in airspace conditions and to ensure the handling of affected passengers proceeds in accordance with procedures.

“For prospective passengers with flights to and from Jakarta, we urge them not to come to the airport before obtaining confirmation of their flight status from the airline, and to continue monitoring the latest information regarding flight schedules,” he said.

He said the safety and security of flights remained the priority.

“Operational flight adjustments will be made dynamically, following developments in airspace conditions and the decisions of the aviation authorities,” he said.

The management of Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport will continue to provide the latest information should there be significant changes to flight operational conditions.

Yudi Apriana, Head of the Airport Operation and Services Department at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the branch office of Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport, added that since the eruption of Mount Krakatau yesterday, seven flights had been affected, with a further five affected on Monday (7/9).
