Amidst the glittering tourism industry of the Island of the Gods, some people live in hardship, even struggling just to eat. This is one of the reasons behind the humanitarian action undertaken by Nasi Darurat Denpasar. Anyone in an economic emergency and unable to buy food can contact the telephone number of the Nasi Darurat Denpasar account, which is popular on Threads.
The initiator is named Hyuda. The man from Semarang has been a migrant in Bali since 2017. Hyuda recounted that the idea for Nasi Darurat Denpasar came when he first migrated and experienced difficulty eating due to his economic condition.
“It was from that experience that I was moved to help others who are in a similar situation,” Hyuda said when contacted by detikBali on Saturday (20/6/2026).
Hyuda’s assessment and validation process is also made as simple as possible. He simply asks about the migrant’s condition to determine whether they are truly in an emergency.
In his posts, Hyuda provides testimonials in the form of requests for help from migrants. Hyuda asks about the migrant’s specific condition. If he deems they are in an emergency and have no other options, Hyuda asks the migrant to go to the nearest food stall and pays for the meal via a barcode.
“The response I have received has been positive. Many migrants and members of the public feel helped and grateful for the existence of Nasi Darurat Dps,” said the man who works in the construction sector.
“For some people, simple assistance in the form of a single portion of food can be a motivation to get back up and fight on,” Hyuda continued.
This initiative was actually already carried out by Hyuda during the COVID-19 pandemic without using social media. Earlier this year, he decided to use Threads so that more people could learn about the programme.
“It turns out the response has been enormous, even in a single day there can be more than 10 people contacting to ask for help,” he said.
In addition to this programme, Hyuda is also active in holding ‘Blessed Friday’ activities by distributing food to breadwinners on the streets. Currently, his coverage area includes Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan, and Gianyar.
“My hope is simple: may there be no migrant who has to endure hunger alone when they are at the lowest point of their life,” Hyuda expressed.
