Constitutional Court Judge Anwar Usman took his leave during his final judicial proceeding as a Constitutional Court (MK) judge. Anwar Usman submitted an apology for his nearly 15 years of service at the Constitutional Court.

Anwar Usman’s final hearing took place at the Constitutional Court on Monday, 16 March 2026. He bid farewell before delivering a ruling.

“Before I deliver the ruling, this may be the final hearing I will attend,” Anwar said during the session held at the Constitutional Court building in Central Jakarta, which was livestreamed on the Constitutional Court’s YouTube channel.

Anwar noted that he would mark exactly 15 years of service at the Constitutional Court on 6 April. He requested forgiveness for shortcomings during his tenure at the Constitutional Court.

“On 6 April 2026, I will complete 15 years of service at the Constitutional Court. Naturally, during such a lengthy period there have been matters that may have been displeasing, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and for this reason, from the depths of my heart I tender my apology,” he stated.

Anwar Usman has served as a Constitutional Court judge since 2011. According to the Constitutional Court’s website, his 15-year tenure as a Constitutional Court judge will conclude on 6 April 2026. Anwar will also turn 70 years old on 31 December 2026.

Three Names of Candidates to Replace Anwar Usman

The selection panel (pansel) has announced the high court judges who passed the selection for candidates to replace Anwar Usman as constitutional judge. The selection results were based on a meeting held by the panel.

According to the Supreme Court (MA) official website on Tuesday, 10 March, the panel is chaired by Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs, Suharto. The panel has produced three names of high court judges as candidates to replace Anwar Usman.

The announcement was signed on 9 March 2026 by Suharto. The announcement, numbered 46 WKMA.Y/KP1.1/III/2026, concerns the Results of Open Selection for Constitutional Court Judge Candidates from the Indonesian Supreme Court Element for Fiscal Year 2026.

“Based on the results of the Essay Writing, Decision Annotation Writing and Competency Test/Interview conducted by the Open Selection Panel for Constitutional Court Judge Candidates from the Indonesian Supreme Court Element for Fiscal Year 2026, hereby the results of the selection of 3 (three) best participants are presented based on the highest score ranking compiled in alphabetical order,” the announcement stated.

The following are the names of high court judges who passed the selection as candidates to replace Anwar Usman:

  1. Dr. Fahmiron, S.H., M.Hum, High Court Judge at Denpasar High Court

  2. Dr. Liliek Prisbawono Adi, S.H., M.H, High Court Judge at Medan High Court

  3. Dr. Marsudin Nainggolan, S.H., M.H, Chief Judge of North Kalimantan High Court

The announcement stated that this decision cannot be contested.

“The decision of the Open Selection Panel for Constitutional Court Judge Candidates from the Indonesian Supreme Court Element for fiscal year 2026 cannot be contested,” the announcement read.
