Anwar Usman Officially Retires as Constitutional Court Judge on 6 April 2026, Who Will Replace Him?

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court’s spokesperson and Justice Enny Nurbaningsih stated that Anwar Usman’s position as a Constitutional Justice officially ends on Monday (6/4/2026). “On 6 April, Mr Anwar’s term ends,” Enny said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (7/4/2026). “However, up to now, his replacement has not yet been inaugurated,” Enny added. Previously, in his last hearing, Anwar delivered a farewell message to his fellow justices and the Indonesian public. “Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Good morning, best wishes to us all. Before I read the decision, this might be the last hearing I attend,” Anwar Usman said during the decision reading session at the Constitutional Court building on Monday (16/3/2026). “Because on 6 April 2026, I will have served 15 years at the Constitutional Court,” he continued. According to Anwar, 15 years is no short time. His career progressed steadily at the institution located on Medan Merdeka Barat, eventually serving as Chief Justice in 2018. “Of course, over such a long period, there were unpleasant matters, whether intentional or not,” Anwar concluded. The Supreme Court has selected three names to be submitted to President Prabowo for selection as the new constitutional justice. These names were announced by the Supreme Court on 9 March 2026. “Based on the final assessment results, the selection committee has determined three best participants, arranged in alphabetical order as follows: Fahmiron, Liliek Prisbawono Adi, Marsudin Nainggolan,” as quoted from the official Supreme Court website on Tuesday (7/4/2026). Additionally, Marsudin Nainggolan previously served as Chief Judge of the North Kalimantan High Court.
