Jakarta - Constitutional Court Justice Anwar Usman collapsed after attending his retirement ceremony at the Constitutional Court building in Jakarta on Monday. The judge, who had served for 15 years at the court, appeared weak as he walked from the hall to the front lobby. During the procession, Anwar was supported by his wife and court staff, proceeding with slow steps. Upon reaching the lobby, he was assisted by other judges to remain standing until he finally collapsed and was carried by staff into the main building’s waiting room. As of this report, Anwar Usman was still in the waiting room, with the court’s medical team attending to him. According to circulating information, Anwar did not faint but weakened due to exhaustion from standing for too long during the retirement ceremony. “Mr Anwar is still conscious (not fainted), his condition is weak because his blood sugar dropped. Exhausted from standing too long earlier,” said MK Secretary General Heru Setiawan. The retirement ceremony took place at 4:00 PM WIB. In his speech, Anwar stated that being a judge requires readiness to be disliked. He also advised his successors and the remaining judges not to fear in upholding justice.
