Anwar Ibrahim Visits Prabowo: Discusses Regional Situation

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta to meet President Prabowo Subianto. Anwar had previously landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta.

The Prime Minister was directly welcomed by Foreign Minister Sugiono. Anwar shared the moment of his arrival in Jakarta via his social media account X @anwaribrahim.

“Welcome to Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, to hold a meeting with my friend, President Prabowo Subianto,” wrote Anwar in the post on Friday, 27 March 2026.

Anwar stated that his meeting with Prabowo would be fully utilised to discuss the conflict situation in West Asia. “And its implications for regional stability and the global economy, including the impact on Malaysia and Indonesia,” said Anwar.

Anwar’s visit to Jakarta was at the invitation of President Prabowo, following a previous telephone conversation on 23 March 2026.

The communication between the two country leaders was previously conducted in the context of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. According to the Malaysian PM, he and Prabowo exchanged views on various current issues. “Including the Iran-Israel conflict,” wrote Anwar via his Instagram account @anwaribrahim_my on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

In discussions on regional and global issues, both emphasised the importance of a sustained diplomatic approach. According to Anwar, he and Prabowo jointly called for peace regarding the war in the West Asia region.

Anwar also informed Prabowo that Malaysia continues to support and strengthen diplomatic efforts to ease the Iran-Israel conflict. “So that tensions can be reduced, civilian lives protected, and meaningful negotiation space opened towards a safe and lasting resolution,” said Anwar.
