Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged his citizens to prioritise buying local products to strengthen the domestic economy amid the threat of an energy crisis due to the war in the Middle East.
“I invite all the people to strengthen the domestic economy. Prioritise local products and support our entrepreneurs, because internal strength is the main fortress in facing the global energy crisis due to the conflict in West Asia,” said Anwar Ibrahim while chairing the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting, a Malaysian government advisory body on economic crisis issues, in Malaysia on Tuesday.
Anwar stated that the MTEN meeting thoroughly examined the developments of the increasingly acute global energy crisis and its implications for the national economy and public welfare.
“In essence, the world is entering a more challenging and uncertain phase; and Malaysia is no exception to its impact. Therefore, we must not be complacent or overly comfortable. We must be prepared with discipline, resolve, and a high spirit of togetherness,” said Anwar.
According to Anwar, his MADANI administration will continue to act proactively based on current data and realities, including obtaining views from industry parties as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) so that every step taken is comprehensive, balanced, and effective.
“Insyaallah, every decision will continue to be based on responsibility and the interests of the people. The government will strive to ensure that energy supply stability is maintained, the economy continues to run well, and public welfare remains a priority in every action,” said Anwar.
